Balinese alcoholic drinks

There are many alcoholic drinks that are popular with the Balinese, many of which use the fermentation of rice as their basis.

This are top 3 list of typical Balinese alcoholic drinks.


Tuak is made by cutting the undeveloped flower of either the coconut or the sugar palm tree. Then collect the sugary liquid that exudes into a bamboo container and ferment it.

Arak is distilled Tuak or could be made by rice. It could be selled in labelled bottle or non. It has a much higher alcoholic content and is colourless. It has a little bit bitter taste. Arak is used in almost all ceremonies.

Please do not drink Arak if you not sure for it safety. A bad Arak Could be contaminated by methanol, and the effects of drinking methanol could be fatal.

Brem is sweet and is made from red or White sticky rice. It also used in almost all ceremonies. It is a pleasant drink and can be drunk over ice or straight.
