Galungan is one of the most significant Balinese festival symbolizing the victory of Virtue (Dharma) upon Evil (Adharma). These sacred days returns each 6 month or 210 days on the balinese calendar. During this time, it is belived that the spirits of the ancestors visit Earth and return to their former homes for 10 days, descendants are meant to be hospitable by making offerings, decorate their houses and temples and decorate the streets with penjors, elaborately decorated bamboo poles that symbolize the dragon that protects Mount Agung (the island's largest volcano). On Galungan Day the whole family is usually gathered,pray and visit temples together. Barong dance performance in the street are often seen as part of the ceremonies and Public buildings and schools close 4-5 days for the holiday.
