The naming of a person in Bali is very unique which is influence by their caste system. Each person's full name is usually composed of at least three separate names. For an instance I WAYAN DARMA, I → male, WAYAN → First child, DARMA → Personal name.
Balinese name enable a person's position in the family to be immediately identified.
The method of naming in sudra caste in Bali.
1. First born : Wayan, Putu,Gede.
2. Second born : Made, Kadek, Nengah.
3. Third born : Nyoman, Komang, Koming.
4. Forth born : Ketut.
The cycle then repeats from number five onwards. These names can be given to boys or to girls, with a prefix of I or Ni to identify the sex. Usually Balinese name did not use Family name, so is not weird if someone names doesn't related to their parent names. Other names based on high caste could be start by Dewa, Gusti, Anak Agung, Ida Bagus and Ida Ayu.
